Who We Are

North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) is a not-for profit organization founded in 2012 and registered under the Societies Act in Kohima, Nagaland. NEIDA was promoted by the Tata Trusts as the nodal agency for the North East Initiative. Through direct field engagement and in partnership with local NGOs NEIDA works in the areas of i) rural livelihoods ii) safe drinking water and sanitation iv) forest based livelihoods and vi) sports promotion. NEIDA currently operates in three states, namely, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland. NEIDA engages with community institutions and grassroots Non-Governmental Organizations for implementing various development projects.

NEIDA’s vision is driven by the need

  • To promote collaboration amongst stakeholders ranging from local NGOs, donor agencies, research organizations, business sector and the government to bring about transformation in the quality of lives of rural communities.
  • To ensure that both men and women and youths get equal opportunity to have a voice in issues that affects their lives.
  • To provide knowledge and expertise on a range of issues that lead to improved quality of lives of the people of the region.

Where We Work

Nagaland

Nagaland is a small state located in the north eastern region of the country. The state is inhabited by 16 major tribes having its own district dialect, customs and traditions. Agriculture is the most important economic activity. NEIDA started working in the state in the year 2012 and works across the state covering Livelihoods, Eco tourism, Springshed management and Safe drinking water.

Mizoram

Mizoram is the southernmost landlocked state in the north eastern region of India. It is the 2nd least populous state in the country and is a highly literate agrarian economy. NEIDA is currently working across the states covering agriculture & horticulture, piggery development, grassroots sports promotion, safe drinking water and Springhshed interventions.

Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh is the largest state among the other North Eastern states of India in terms of geographical area, with diverse topographical features and unique agro-ecological zones that made the land favorable for wide varieties of flora and fauna. Agriculture is not only the backbone of rural economy but also a way of life and tradition, ensuring livelihood opportunity. The state is the home of 20 tribes and 110 sub-tribes with diverse dialects and socio-cultural differences. NEIDA is working on livelihood promotion, safe drinking water and springshed management projects in the state.
